2020 Started with such promise

The year started with such promise, Bella and I were in Bangkok while she was recovering from her surgery. We had both got ourselves a can of beer to see the New Year in and some cake, from the window in our room we could see the fireworks lighting up the night sky as the time hit midnight. A few weeks later we flew back into Manchester and all was fine at that point.

Once back home we settled into our routine, then came the news of this new virus that had appeared in China, and the news covered all the measures that the Chinese were doing to try and stop it spreading, but with global travel that was like trying to drive a petrol car using diesel.

The virus was spreading across Asia at first and then it made its way to Europe hitting Italy first and then spreading like wildfire. At first, I would watch the news with interest, and when it arrived in the UK. The government at first were slow to act infections shot up and unfortunately so did the rate that people were dying from it.

Eventually, in late March the government shut the country down effectively, only allowing essential shops to open and closing everything else. The World Health Organisation officially declared it a pandemic, as every corner of the earth was being affected by it.

During this lockdown, Bella and I had each other for company, and in the most part, we kept each other entertained while she was not working. Then the company she was working for decided that they no longer needed her services and gave her one…
