Activities pre and post-transition

While this blog is centred on football it’s just the medium I am using to express my point on a topic. Before I transitioned my dad and I used to bond over football, both of us being born in Liverpool and both being red’s we used to enjoy watching the games. My dad grew up with Liverpool’s total dominance of the English game and I was only 9 when they won the league the previous one to last season.

But for us, it was what gave us something to talk about and do together, once I got past 9 the dominance came to an end and I grew up with the odd trophy here and there, but it didn’t put us off bonding over it. Indeed in the 2005 season when Liverpool won their 5th champions league in Istanbul, we had been to every home Champions League game that season and managed to get tickets to the final.

Now that was one of the most amazing matches I have ever seen, at half time I really did feel like leaving as I didn’t want to see them get beat 6 or 7 nil in a final. But then the game turned on its head and Liverpool scored 3 goals in the second half and took the match all the way through extra time and into penalties. Eventually winning the match, and although I am a little biased it probably is the best Champions League final ever.

The year after that I transitioned, and my relationship with my dad became very strained. But also for me, this…
