Grief Therapy
When I was discharged from hospital in November my mum ensured that the things were put in place to ensure that I had all the support that I needed. I also got lucky with the initial support that I was given that they ensured that until things were in place there would be support for me. So rather than the initial 2 weeks of the home treatment team, their consultant decided they would support me until my care coordinator was put in place.
Then on the therapy front, the eating disorder team decided that they would keep me on their books until I had an appointment for grief counselling. As they didn’t want to leave me without any support structure there as all those agencies knew the complexity of the situation and didn’t want me on my own.
I also got lucky with the therapist I was having telephone appointments with, as she had a wide background of knowledge and not just based on eating disorders. So I had an hour with her every week and it could be a quick 15-minute check-in to see if I am ok or we could use it all if I wanted to.
I think that was why she was assigned to me, as although last time I saw the head of that service his waiting list is huge.
With her, it was all about making sure I was maintaining my weight any way I could regardless of the diet I was eating. So that I would start the grief therapy from a place she would feel happy…
