Rape Crisis Centers and Trans-Women
The other day there were some comments on the anti-trans twitter accounts and their message boards. They were getting all angry at the fact that two rape crisis centres in the UK had put out an advert asking for help with delivering their support. Now, this is nothing unusual normally, places like this need people to help a lot of the time so them advertising for help is a thing they do.
But this time the advert didn’t say they were looking for a woman but is said that they were looking for someone who I identified as a woman, so these were not bothered if the people they would interview and pick a candidate from was either a cis-woman or a trans-woman.
Now, this isn’t unusual, in the UK Rape Crisis Centers are all small local groups, who have a loose sort of national committee that is who talks to people like the government and other bodies about policy and ideas in reform laws and so on. It also means that when it comes to the single-sex exemption in the Equality Act is not applied nationally, but is something that they decide if they wish to use on a local level.
The anti-trans people didn’t know this, and well as they were advertising for both cis-women and trans-women to help out it made them rather angry.
