Knowing the date and time of the inquest and having received the evidence pack that I get that shows what has been disclosed publicly making sure that anyone else is not identifiable got me thinking. I am in a bit of a positive situation as I have a legal education so know what is happening and how it will be dealt with. For a lot of people in a similar situation without my knowledge, the situation must feel daunting.

As if there is the need for an inquest it is because the death is classed as unusual and requires investigation to see why it happened. So someone with no legal knowledge faced with that situation must feel overwhelming. Now if you have the funds you can instruct a lawyer to act for you but if you don’t then you have to deal with it on your own.

If I didn’t know what I was doing then I don’t think what I had done to put my explanation of what I think happened would have been done and as such the view of things from my perspective would probably have gone untold. I knew what I needed to do for this and what to provide to show that this was a logical explanation. Someone with no legal knowledge wouldn’t know where to start with any of that.

This would mean that it would not be considered as an option and only the basic evidence presented by the police and any medical reports and possibly any witnesses would be presented and a decision made…
