This year strikes again
If this year could not have been more challenging as it was already it decided to spice things up a little more for me. The first snake that I got when she was just a little hatchling and barely longer than the palm of my hand died during the night; taking her from being a baby through to being a fully-fledged adult had been so rewarding.
I remember the day that I first got her all those years ago, getting my parents to drive me to an exotic animal pet shop. After looking around at all the options I spotted her there and knew that she was the one I wanted. Being an animalistic corn snake, she could not have dark pigments in her skin so was a lovely mix of orange and red.
Holding her the first time in the pet shop she was all jumpy and nervous at being held by me, I had fallen for her at this point and then it was just a case of getting what I would need to look after her. She was a tiny little snake at this point, barely more than 15cm long and so thin and tiny.
Getting her home and settled into her new home felt so nice.
After giving her a few days to adjust to her new environment it was ok to start to handle her and let her slither about outside of her vivarium. Gone was the bundle of nerves that she was in the pet shop, now she was so placid and calm. She had a lovely temperament and was very curious about going down gaps…
