Unintended Consequences of Targeting Trans Health Care

At the moment there is a court case being brought against the Tavistock Clinic by an ex-patient, the basic summary of the claim is that they were “rushed” through the process and ended up transitioning as a result. They then several years later de-transitioned and are now claiming that they didn’t understand things and that they felt they were “pushed” to transition.

But I don’t want to talk too much about the case, as I don’t want to risk getting into trouble for talking about it. So I have only published the details that are already in the public domain. As you can imagine the Gender Critical folk are over the moon at this. With reactions hoping that the clinic (the only one in the UK that helps trans people under the age of 18 ) will be closed down or that there will be strict rules imposed on what they can and can’t do.

The lawyer taking charge of the case is building the argument against the clinic in such a way arguing that people under the age of 18 are not able to understand the implications of the medication taken and as such can’t provide consent to take them.

That argument itself goes against a well-established legal principle laid out in Gillick v West Norfolk and Wisbech Area Health Authority, which allows for those people under the age of 16 to consent to medical treatment without their…
